New Orleans, LA land for sale

New Orleans became part of the U.S. in the Louisiana Purchase in 1803 and is nicknamed the "Crescent City" because it's shaped like a quarter-moon. It's divided into parishes as opposed to counties. The city is located in the Mississippi River Delta and borders 3 bodies of water—Lake Borgne to the east, Lake Pontchartrain to the north, and the Mississippi River to the south. It's only 100 miles from the Gulf of Mexico. Of New Orleans' total area, over 220,000 acres, more than 50% is water. Much of the land along the river contains ridges and hollows. Marshland, lakes, and bayous extend from the city in every direction. The city has over 2,000 acres of green space including over 200 parks.

Since a large portion of the land in New Orleans is either protected or has been developed, there's not exactly a diverse selection of real estate for land buyers.
